OC Matchmakers Reveal 4 Early Signs of a Bad Relationship
Everyone has been there. We have friends and family we’ve seen enter bad relationships, and despite everyone around them seeing the big warning signs, somehow they themselves did not see them. It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement and newness of a brand-new relationship, so much so that we become blinded to the obvious signs that are right in front of our eyes.
Being in a relationship can often lead to a lot of mixed feelings and confusion, and it can sometimes lead us to wonder whether or not the aspects we’re experiencing are ok to worry about. If you’re unsure whether or not your relationship is healthy, read on as our Irvine matchmakers here at Orange County Singles Dating Service reveal the early warning signs of a bad relationship.
- You Feel Like You Can’t Depend on Him
One of the best parts about having a boyfriend is knowing that you always have someone you can go to when things aren’t going well. Whether you’re having work problems or you’re dealing with a lot of family issues, knowing you can rely on your boyfriend is key to any healthy relationship.
Sure, it’s great to have friends and family you can turn to for support, but it really should be your boyfriend who leads the way when it comes to being you’re shoulder to cry on. If you’re boyfriend isn’t the person that comes to mind when you think of a difficult situation you need to vent about, then he isn’t the right boyfriend for you.
- He’s Critical of Your Friends
It’s unrealistic to think your partner will love your friends as much as you do. Let’s be honest here. But it’s good for both of you to have your own groups of friends and separate lives outside of the relationship. Your boyfriend should actually encourage you to spend time with your friends, and he should have no problem with them.
If you feel like you boyfriend is trying to alienate you from your nearest and dearest, or if you feel like he monopolizes so much of your time that you don’t get to see your friends as often as you would like, it’s a definitely time to start reassessing your relationship. Being with someone who does nothing but criticize your friends will also have a negative impact on you, and he might start to convince you that the people you truly love aren’t worth your time.
- He Puts You Down
A little teasing here and there is fine in a relationship, as long as it’s not done in a mean or cruel way. However, if your boyfriend is constantly calling you negative names or putting you down in any way, there’s a definite problem here. No one should ever make you feel bad about yourself, and it should definitely never be your boyfriend.
A strong and healthy relationship is based on both partners loving and supporting each other, not putting each other down. Being constantly critical of the way you look, dress, talk or think is unacceptable, and should definitely be considered a huge red flag. If you don’t feel good when you are with your boyfriend, you shouldn’t be with him anymore.
- You Feel Things Are Moving Too Fast
Falling in love can feel like an emotional whirlwind. One minute you’re up, one minute you’re down. However, it shouldn’t feel like your partner is tearing through your life like a tornado. A lot of times we get so caught up in the excitement of a new relationship that things can start moving too fast, and we start forgetting to let things move at a natural speed. If it feels like things are happening too fast for your comfort, make sure your boyfriend isn’t trying to manipulate you for his own benefit. If your boyfriend is moving things too fast, it could be a red flag indicating shallowness and impatience on his part.
